چکیده

Polybutadiene and a co poly mer consisting of 76.5 percent butadiene and 23 .5 percent of styrene were investigated as to t he rates of t heir t hermal degradation . The ra tes for polybu tadiene indicated an act iv:ttion energy of 60 kilocalories per mole. The copolym er had very high init ial rates of degradation, followed by a rapid cirop, so t hat it wa~ not possible to obtain a reliab le activation energy. Polyacrylonitrile and a copolymer consisting of 31 percent of acrylonitrile a nd 69 percent of butadiene were investigated with regard to t he nature and distribu t ion of volat ile products, as well as to t he rates of t he ir thermal degradation. The rates were very high in it ially, but dropped rapidly 50 t hat it was not possible to determine accurately t he activation energy. Thp, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolym r r s howed a rlecomposit ion pattern s imila r to t hat of polybutadiene. Here, too, t he acLivat ion energy could !lot be rlec!uced accurate ly from the rate curves. Comparati\Oe thermal ~tab ili ty in te rllls of temperatu re, at which half of the polymer sample is evaporated in 35 m inu tes of heating, is as follows: -!07°C for polybutadienc, 374°C for SBll, 36+° C for polystyrene, 360° C for NEll, and3JGo C for polyacr ylon itrile.

Morphology Formation in PC/ABS Blends during Thermal Processing and the Effect of the Viscosity Ratio of Blend Partners

Morphology formation during compounding, as well as injection molding of blends containing 60 wt % polycarbonate (PC) and 40 wt % polybutadiene rubber-modified styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers (ABS), has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Profiles of the blend morphology have been recorded in injection-molded specimens and significant morphology gradients observed betw...

High MOF loading in mixed-matrix membranes utilizing styrene/butadiene copolymers.

A series of styrene/butadiene polymers were combined with up to 90 wt% UiO-66 to form mixed-matrix membranes with varying physical properties. Notably, polystyrene-block-polybutadiene (SBS) membranes retained much of the processability and flexibility of the native polymer component and the porosity, chemical tunability, and adsorption of the native MOF.

Sebs (styrene - Ethylene - Butadiene - Styrene) Analysis through Injection Reprocessing and Rheological Characterization

Thermoplastic rubbers are materials that combine the characteristics of good processability of thermoplastics with the physical properties of vulcanized rubber. SEBS is a SBS which has been subjected to a hydrogenation process, through the polybutadiene chain is eliminated. This new rubber has a high resistance to environment, temperature, UV radiation, etc. without losing the properties of a t...

Synthesis, Characterization and Thermal Stability Study of Styrene-based Ionomers I) Programmed Heating Experiments (10 oC/min to 500 oC)

Ionomers are generally described by copolymers having either acrylic or methacylic acid as one component and the other component is mostly either ethylene or styrene. The objective of this research was to study the thermal behaviour and stability of ionomers of styrene with some alkali metal acrylates. These materials have been synthesized by neutralization of the respective copoly...

2. Relevance to Public Health 2.1 Background and Environmental Exposures to Styrene in the United States

Styrene is a high production chemical; the production capacity for styrene in the United States was over 12 billion pounds in 2008. Small amounts of styrene are naturally present in foods such as legumes, beef, clams, eggs, nectarines, and spices. It can also be present in packaged foods by migration from polystyrene food containers and packaging materials. Styrene is a combustion product of ci...
